The Howard English Hatchery near Victoria, BC, operated by The Goldstream Salmon Enhancement Society was a recent recipient of vital salmon egg hatching equipment donated by Marine Harvest Canada.
The twenty-four stacks of “Heath Trays” were recently installed just in time to accept thousands of Chinook salmon eggs taken from brood stock originated from Goldstream River. Jerry Lang, a volunteer worker at the hatchery, was very excited to see new equipment arrive at his hatchery. Mr. Lang commented, “Having brand new equipment donated to us not only increases the salmon’s chances of survival, but also increases motivation of staff at the hatchery”.
Marine Harvest Canada has supported numerous small enhancement fish hatcheries on Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia.
