250 sailors waiting for salmon.
On June 9, 2009, Marine Harvest Canada and the BC Salmon Farmers Association were once again excited to host the 4th leg of the popular Save On Foods Van Isle 360 Yacht Race. This 10th anniversary race hosted 27 vessels with about 250 total crew. The race occurs every two years and each year Marine Harvest has hosted the race for an over night stop at the salmon farm. The staff at Marine Harvest’s Hardwicke Island salmon farm were excited to welcome all boats to the site and to host a salmon bar-b-que right on site for all guests. Volunteers from Campbell River’s Save on Foods, the BC Salmon Farmers Association and Noboco Ltd. joined Marine Harvest to provide what one sailor described as “the best damn salmon he’s ever tasted”. After a comment like that, we don’t think there’s anything more we need to say!
